Strong contender for title of coolest hotel in Bangkok
MaDuZi is achingly hip. From the architecture, to the furnishing, to the access polices, it is all very modern. On this basis you should go there ASAP before it becomes dated and stops being cool. This said, the popularity and reputation of this hotel and its restaurant have been on an upwards trajectory since opening in 2008 so there may be a few more years left in the enfant terrible of the Bangkok hotel scene.
Set within a wedge shaped slither of concrete, MaDuZi ticks all the boxes of the chic urban-set. The clientele is a mix of foreigner and 'hi-so' (high society in Bangkok vernacular) Thai. The hotel and the restaurant have a strict reservation only policy to keep out any hi-so interlopers. On check-in guests are assigned a guest code to protect their identity - just the ticket for a discreet assignation with the latest starlet! The restaurant has a following in its own right with an inventive French/Japanese fusion menu. There is also has an exclusive London club style bar, which is white, round and surrounded by high red leather chairs. If the cool gets too much for you then the Stytrain and Metro are only 200 metres away and you can come and slum it with the rest of us.
The hotel has four choices of room type. A small Studio (49sqm), a larger Studio (53sqm), Corner rooms (63sqm), and Suites (79sqm). Each room is en-suite, has a real espresso machine (you may need instructions), and a mini-bar with free soft drinks and snacks. The rooms are minimalist, in a good way with wood floors, modernist furniture and marble bathrooms.
